Synopsis of The Face of the God by Christal Cook:

Britain, in the latter half of the first century (Roman period, 55 B.C.-449 A.D) provides the background for this brilliant first historical fiction novel by Christal Cook.

It is 51 A.D. From the south the Romans are slowly pushing their way north, tribe by tribe, until Lincoln marks the edge of Roman power in Britain. The Brigantes in Yorkshire are aware of this mounting pressure, but are themselves evenly split in a crucial religious battle between Tigirn, king of North Britain and follower of the God and the fiery Aregwedd who betrayed him into marriage – a mariage which has brought the ancient but conflicting faith of the Goddess to Brigantia.
