Synopsis of Les Templiers: Une Chevalerie Chr’tienne Au Moyen:

The Templar Knights

The Order of the Temple is the first example of an original creation of Western medieval Christianity: the religious-military order. In the 12th century, the new knight of Christ pronounced the monk’s vows, lived according to a rule, but acted in the century. For his faith, he fights, he kills and he dies. Created to protect pilgrims from Jerusalem, the order extended its mission to the defense of the Latin States of the East, then to Spain from the Reconquista .

Its impeachment, in 1307, by the king of France Philippe le Bel, is followed by an unfair trial and its suppression in 1312. The order of the Temple becomes the scapegoat of a conflict which exceeds it, exacerbated in France by the personality of the king and his advisers: the rivalry between a defensive spiritual power and the modern state which has asserted itself in the West since the middle of the 13th century.
